Activities Related to Enviromental Protection

Σας ενημερώνουμε ότι έπειτα από επιβεβαίωση της κας. Κατερίνας Χριστοφιλίδου, δημοσιογράφου και παρουσιάστριας της ενότητας Econews στις βραδινές ειδήσεις του ΣΚΑΙ, σήμερα 24 Φεβρουαρίου 2016, θα γίνει παρουσίαση του ευρωπαϊκού προγράμματος “Πιλοτικά Πάρκα Ψαριών”, το οποίο υλοποιείται από το Ίδρυμα “Μαρία Τσάκος” σε συνεργασία με το Ελληνικό Κέντρο Θαλασσίων Ερευνών(ΕΛΚΕΘΕ).

Η τελετή των εγκαινίων της έκθεσης που πραγματοποιεί το Ίδρυμα “Μαρία Τσάκος” σε συνεργασία με την HELMEPA με τίτλο «Θαλάσσιο Περιβάλλον-Ναυτιλία-Επιστήμες» πραγματοποιήθηκε τη Δευτέρα 22 Φεβρουαρίου 2016 στο εκθεσιακό κέντρο “Γ. Καλουτάς”.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition entitled “Marine Environment – Shipping – Sciences” which the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation is organizing in cooperation with HELMEPA,  took place on Monday 22nd February 2016 at “J. Kaloutas” exhibition centre.

Στη Χίο, η Εκστρατεία

HELMEPA - Lloyd’s Register Foundation

Στη Χίο μεταφέρεται από 22 Φεβρουαρίου έως 8 Μαρτίου 2016, η «Εκστρατεία Ενημέρωσης της Εκπαιδευτικής Κοινότητας και του Ευρύτερου Κοινού για το Θαλάσσιο Περιβάλλον, τη Ναυτιλία και τις Επιστήμες» που υλοποιεί η HELMEPA σε 14 περιοχές της Ελλάδος, την τριετία 2014 -2017, με την υποστήριξη του Βρετανικού Κοινωφελούς Ιδρύματος Lloyd’s Register Foundation* (LRF).

 Οι δράσεις της Εκστρατείας θα πραγματοποιηθούν σε συνεργασία με το Ίδρυμα «Μαρία Τσάκος» – Κέντρο Ναυτικής Έρευνας και Παράδοσης ενώ τελούν υπό την αιγίδα της Περιφερειακής Ενότητας Χίου της Περιφέρειας Βορείου Αιγαίου.

Η περιβαλλοντική Έκθεση της Εκστρατείας θα φιλοξενηθεί την περίοδο αυτή στο Εκθεσιακό Κέντρο «Γεώργιος Καλουτάς» και με τη συνεργασία των Διευθύνσεων Πρωτοβάθμιας και Δευτεροβάθμιας Εκπαίδευσης Χίου, η HELMEPA θα μεταφέρει στην Έκθεση, με δαπάνες της Εκστρατείας, 1.200 μαθητές του νησιού.

Τα εγκαίνια θα πραγματοποιηθούν τη Δευτέρα 22 Φεβρουαρίου και ώρα 12:00. Η Έκθεση θα λειτουργεί για τα σχολεία τις καθημερινές 09.00-13.00 ενώ θα παραμένει ανοικτή για το κοινό μέχρι τις 15.00.

Στο πλαίσιο της Εκστρατείας, προγραμματίζονται και άλλες δράσεις, όπως Ενημερωτικό Σεμινάριο για Εκπαιδευτικούς με θέμα «Θάλασσα και Άνθρωπος: Διασφαλίζοντας ένα Βιώσιμο Μέλλον» την Τετάρτη 2 Μαρτίου στο Ίδρυμα «Μαρία Τσάκος» και διεξαγωγή έρευνας για την περιβαλλοντική ενημέρωση και ευαισθητοποίηση των μαθητών.

                              HELMEPA - Lloyd’s Register Foundation Campaign:

next stop, Chios

The “Educational Community and Public Awareness Campaign on the Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences”, which is carried out by HELMEPA across 14 Greek towns and cities between 2014-2017 with the support of Lloyd’s Register Foundation* (the Foundation), moves on to theisland ofChios.

The Campaign’s activities in Chios will be carried out from 22 February to 8 March 2016 in cooperation with the “Maria Tsakos Foundation” – Center for Maritime Research and Tradition and are placed under the auspices of the Regional Authority of Chios –Northern Aegean.

The environmental Exhibition will be hosted during the said period at the “George Kaloutas”ExhibitionCenterwhere, in cooperation with the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of Chios, HELMEPA will transport 1,200 pupils of local schools on the Campaign’s expenses.

The opening of the Exhibition will take place on Monday 22 February, at 12.00. It will remain open daily for schools from 09.00 to 13.00 and for the public until 15.00.

Other environmental activities are also being scheduled in the framework of the Campaign, such as the ‘train-the-trainer’ Seminar for Teachers titled “The marine environment and us: ensuring a sustainable future” on Wednesday 2 March at the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation and a survey on the school children’s level of environmental awareness.

The second voluntary coastal cleanup, organized by the ‘Maria Tsakos’ Foundation in cooperation with HELMEPA, took place in Kardamyla on 10^th May 2015. Among the participants were:

- The boarders of “Maria’s Home-Education and Culture Campus”;
- representatives of the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation and the Tsakos Shipping Chios;

- the voluntary action group “OMIKRON”;
- the “Progressive Group of Kardamyla”;
- the “Women’s Association of Kardamyla”;
- pupils from the Kardamyla schools and other volunteers.

The Vice-Mayor of Kardamyla, Mr. Matheos Fafalios also participated in the coastal cleanup.

Το  Ίδρυμα «Μαρία Τσάκος-Διεθνές Κέντρο Ναυτικής Έρευνας και Παράδοσης» σε συνεργασία με τη HELMEPA,  διοργάνωσε τον δεύτερο εθελοντικό  καθαρισμό ακτών (10 Μαΐου 2015)  στα Καρδάμυλα  με την συμμετοχή:

- Των μαθητών του “Σπιτιού της Μαρίας”,
- στελεχών του Ιδρύματος “Μαρία Τσάκος” και της Tsakos Shipping Chios,

- της εθελοντικής ομάδας δράσης “ΟΜΙΚΡΟΝ”,

- του Φιλοπρόοδου Ομίλου Καρδαμύλων (ΦΟΚ),
- του Συλλόγου Γυναικών Καρδαμύλων,
- μαθητών των σχολείων και εθελοντών κατοίκων των Καρδαμύλων.

Στον καθαρισμό έλαβε μέρος και ο Αντιδήμαρχος Καρδαμύλων, κ. Ματθαίος Φαφαλιός.

A voluntary two-day coastal cleanup took place  in the village of Kardamyla on
25-26 April 2015, organized by the ‘Maria Tsakos’ Foundation in cooperation with HELMEPA. Among the participants were:

Το  Ίδρυμα «Μαρία Τσάκος-Διεθνές Κέντρο Ναυτικής Έρευνας και Παράδοσης» σε συνεργασία με τη HELMEPA,  διοργάνωσαν εθελοντικό διήμερο καθαρισμό ακτών (25 και 26 Απριλίου 2015)  στα Καρδάμυλα  με την συμμετοχή:

- Των μαθητών του “Σπιτιού της Μαρίας”,
- στελεχών του Ιδρύματος “Μαρία Τσάκος” και της Tsakos Shipping Chios,
- του Φιλοπρόοδου Ομίλου Καρδαμύλων (ΦΟΚ)
- του Συλλόγου Γυναικών Καρδαμύλων
- μαθητών των σχολείων και εθελοντών κατοίκων των Καρδαμύλων.

Following the successful Chios Congress, “Our Response to the Fires”, in October 2012 the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation is sponsoring a National Round Table for Fire Management, to be held in Athens on May 14th, at the Eugenidion Foundation. The organizers also include the Global Fire Monitoring Center and the Greek Agricultural Organization “DEMETRA” with Dr G. Xanthopoulos, a forest fire specialist and scientist and the country’s representative to the United Nations relevant bodies.

The main objective of the Round Table is to create an interagency and cross-sectoral Forum with the participation of state agencies and civil society organizations. The Forum’s aim would be to address in a systematic and thorough way the problem of forest and other landscape fires and to elaborate further on an initial proposal to develop a National Fire Management Policy for Greece. Apparently, such a need is long overdue.

On April 20-21, 2013 the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation hosted a two-day seminar in its Auditorium entitled “Marine Environment, Maritime Museums and Education”. The Seminar was organized by the Directorate of Primary Education of Chios. Its aim was to provoke the students’ interest on matters concerning marine environment and maritime tradition and the role of maritime museums.

The European Conference of Botanical Gardens was held at the Foundation’s premises. The participants in this event were experts from a diversified range of  European Countries.

Response to the fires

On 15-16 October 2012, the International Congress entitled “Our response to the fires – Working together for a better Chios” was held at the Homerion Cultural Center of Chios under the auspices of the Ministry of Mercantile Marine and the Aegean. This well attended initiative, organized and sponsored by the Foundation just a few months after the devastating summer fires that hit the island, brought together international and national experts in an effort to come up with practical ways for alleviating the environmental disaster and preventing future ones.

The objectives of the Congress were:

   -  The analysis and the drafting of recommendations for the recovery of the island and the healing of its wounds and;

   -  The contribution to the creation of strong infrastructures for the prevention and diminution of similar calamities in the future, as well as for the rehabilitation and further economic development and growth of the island.

The Foundation hosted the training course of Scientists of the Baltic Sea and within the Black Sea Economic Cooperation with respect to the implementation of the European Regulations and policies concerning the protection of the coastal and marine environment.

The training course was organized by the HCMR ( Hellenic Center of Marine Research) und  was under the auspices of  the EU program: PERSEUS (Policy-oriented marine Environmental Research in the Southern European Seas).
