“Woman and Health” Meeting – July 7th 2012

On 7th July 2012, the meeting “Woman and Health” took place at the Foundation’s atrium, in co-operation with the Greek Association of Healthcare Services and the 2nd Gynecological Clinic of the University of Athens. Its scope was to make people aware of the significance of preventing condition not common to women.

European Program “KNOWME” 2-23 May 2012

The works of the European Program “KNOWME” were hosted at the Foundation’s premises in presence of scientists from 11 European Universities. The focus of analysis conducted was building and developing prospects of an innovative design of training , research  and education in the maritime industry.

Lecture on “The Light in the teaching of the Church and the ancient and modern Greek literature”

On March 31st, 2012, His Eminence Metropolitan of Chios, Psara and Oinousses, Markos, delivered a lecture entitled “The Light in the teaching of the Church and the ancient and modern Greek literature” in the lecture room of  the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation.

 This event was crowned with success, and was transmitted through a live web connection to the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation of Montevideo, Uruguay.

ANTIKYTHERA MECHANISM – March 16-17, 2012

The Foundation hosted the team members of the Antikythera Mechanism, Mr. Yiannis Bitsakis, Mr. Agamemnon Tselikas and the Rear Admiral H.C.G (rtd) John Theofanidis.

The first day the guests presented the mechanism to the students of the Island at Homerion Cultural Center while the second day to the Chian audience at the lecture room of the Foundation.

Those who attended the event had the opportunity to acquire detailed knowledge through an interactive lecture, the history, the secrets, as well as the development of the research on the decoding of this ancient instrument.

ECONSHIP 2011

The international conference ECONSHIP, organized by the University of the Aegean’s Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport, was successfully hosted in the Foundation’s premises. The conference was focused on shipping amidst the crisis, and the arising challenges, risks and opportunities during such periods of crises.

ECONSHIP 2011 was embraced by the participation of more than 150 researchers and distinguished academics, from Greece and abroad, who presented the findings of their research. Special sessions took place with the contribution and participation of Greek and international shipping industry representatives, focusing on particular subjects of interest for the business community and the maritime market.

International Erasmus Course on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (EMRI), 6-9 September 2011

The Foundation’s interest on health issues was demonstrated by hosting the International Course on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (EMRI) – MRI of the Breast and Female Imaging, organized by the Radiology Laboratory of the Skylitsion Hospital of Chios in collaboration with the Universities of Brussels and Maastricht.

The latest research in the field was presented by postgraduate radiologists from the European Institute of Medical Research (EMRI).

Program “Shore Awareness of Vessel Emergencies” (S.A.V.E.) – July 14th,2011

On July 14th, 2011, a press conference was held at the Foundation’s facilities for the S.A.V.E. (Shore Awareness of Vessel Emergencies) program. The program was set up by researchers from the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport at the University of the Aegean and the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the National Technical University.

The aim of this initiative was to create an information network on crisis situations and shipping accidents, regarding coastal and island populations.

Conference on “Perspectives of Greek Scientists in Polar Research”

On November 24th, 2009, the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation, in collaboration with the European Polar Board of the European Science Foundation and the Academy Research Centre for Atmospheric Physics and Climatology, organized the one-day conference on the “Perspectives of Greek Scientists in Polar Research”.

The conference took place in the amphitheatre of the Megaron “Makedonia” under the auspices of the UNESCO Chair on Natural Hazards in the Geosphere, the Hydrosphere and the Atmosphere, hosted by the National Observatory of Athens. Conference participations included researchers from Institutions which have carried out  research in the Arctic Circle over the past 20 years, such as the University of Athens, of Thessaloniki, of Crete and Thrace and the National Observatory of Athens.
