ΔΕΛΤΙΟΝ ΤΥΠΟΥ
ΤΕΛΕΤΗ ΑΠΟΚΑΛΥΠΤΗΡΙΩΝ ΟΜΟΙΩΜΑΤΟΣ Θ/Κ «ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ ΑΒΕΡΩΦ»
Tην Τετάρτη, 23 Ιανουαρίου 2019, έλαβε χώρα, στο Ομήρειο Πνευματικό Κέντρο Χίου, σε ιδιαιτέρως συγκινητική και γεμάτη εθνική υπερηφάνεια ατμόσφαιρα, η τελετή αποκαλυπτηρίων ομοιώματος του θωρηκτού «ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ ΑΒΕΡΩΦ» που κατασκεύασε το Κοινωφελές Ίδρυμα «Μαρία Τσάκος» – Διεθνές Κέντρο Ναυτικής Έρευνας και Παράδοσης – το πρώτο από σειρά παρομοίων ομοιωμάτων που το ΔΣ του Ιδρύματος απεφάσισε να προσφέρει σε νησιά του Ανατολικού Αιγαίου με τη συμπλήρωση 100 ετών από τους νικηφόρους πολέμους του 1912-13.
Την τελετή, στην οποία παρέστησαν ο Ιδρυτής Καπτ. Παναγιώτης Ν. Τσάκος, ο Πρόεδρος του Δ.Σ. του Ιδρύματος κ. Ευθύμιος Μητρόπουλος και ο Μητροπολίτης Χίου, Ψαρών, Οινουσσών και Καρδαμύλων κ. κ. Μάρκος, ετίμησαν με την παρουσία τους ο Υπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας κ. Ευάγγελος Αποστολάκης, ο Αρχηγός Γ.Ε.Σ. Αντιστράτηγος Αλκιβιάδης Στεφανής, ο Αρχηγός Γ.Ε.Ν. Αντιναύαρχος Νικόλαος Τσούνης Π.Ν. και ο Αρχηγός Λ.Σ. Αντιναύαρχος Σταμάτιος Ράπτης.

Βλυσίδου, εκπρόσωποι των πολιτικών, δικαστικών, στρατιωτικών και εκπαιδευτικών αρχών της νήσου, επίλεκτα μέλη της Χιακής κοινωνίας, μαθητές από το Ναυτικό Λύκειο ΤΕΕΝΣ Χίου και την Στέγη της Μαρίας Καρδαμύλων, από Γυμνάσια και Λύκεια του Νησιού, πλήθος Χιωτών και πολλά στελέχη του Ομίλου Εταιρειών Τσάκου με τις οικογένειες τους.
Ο Πρόεδρος του Δ.Σ. του Ιδρύματος «Μαρία Τσάκος» κ. Ευθύμιος Ηλ. Μητρόπουλος ανεφέρθη εκτενώς στην ιστορία και δράση του θρυλικού θωρηκτού και την συμβολή του στην απελευθέρωση των Νήσων του Β. Αιγαίου, όταν, σαν Ναυαρχίς του Ελληνικού Στόλου, κατήγαγε περίλαμπρες νίκες στις ναυμαχίες της Έλλης και της Λήμνου. Παράλληλα, απέτισε φόρο τιμής στον Μεγάλο Εθνικό Ευεργέτη Γ. Αβέρωφ, με χρήματα του οποίου αγοράσθηκε το Θωρηκτό και στους Καρδαμυλίτες Μιχάλη και Σταματία Ξυλά, κτήτορες του Ομηρείου Πνευματικού Κέντρου.
Στη συνέχεια, ο Δήμαρχος Χίου, κ. Εμμανουήλ Βουρνούς, συνεχάρη και ευχαρίστησε το Ίδρυμα «Μαρία Τσάκος» για την προσφορά του ομοιώματος, τονίζοντας το σημαντικό έργο που επιτελεί το Ίδρυμα στη ναυτική εκπαίδευση και στη διατήρηση και προβολή της ναυτικής παράδοσης πανελληνίως.
Ο Καπτ. Παναγιώτης Ν. Τσάκος, με τη σειρά του, τόνισε ότι η ναυτοσύνη είναι η δύναμη και ο πλούτος της Χώρας μας, προτρέποντας τα νέα παιδιά να οραματίζονται ένα λαμπρό μέλλον, σαν αυτό που πλουσιοπάροχα προσφέρει η θάλασσα. Έκλεισε την παρέμβαση του ευχαριστώντας τον Υπουργό Άμυνας και τους Αρχηγούς των Επιτελείων που τίμησαν την εκδήλωση.
Κατόπιν, έλαβε τον λόγο ο Υπουργός Εθνικής Άμυνας κ. Ευάγγελος Αποστολάκης, ο οποίος συνεχάρη το Ίδρυμα «Μαρία Τσάκος» για την πρωτοβουλία της κατασκευής και προσφοράς ομοιωμάτων του «Γ. Αβέρωφ» σε νησιά του Ανατολικού Αιγαίου, τονίζοντας τη σημασία της χειρονομίας στη ναυτική παράδοση και αξίες της Ελλάδας αλλά και στην επιμόρφωση της μαθητικής νεολαίας στην ένδοξη ναυτική ιστορία της Χώρας μας – ιστορία που όλοι οφείλουμε να διαφυλάττουμε σαν κόρη οφθαλμού, σαν ιερά παρακαταθήκη. Στη συνέχεια, εξέφρασε τα θερμά του συγχαρητήρια στον Καπτ. Παναγιώτη Ν. Τσάκο για την πρόσφατη δημιουργία στη Χίο του πρώτου ιδιωτικού Μη Κερδοσκοπικού Ναυτικού Λυκείου της Χώρας «Τσάκος Ελληνικά Εκπαιδευτήρια Ναυτικών Σπουδών», στο οποίο και ευχήθηκε κάθε επιτυχία.

Ακολούθησαν τα αποκαλυπτήρια του ομοιώματος από τον Υπουργό Εθνικής Άμυνας μέσα σε κλίμα γενικού ενθουσιασμού και συγκίνησης ενώ, στη συνέχεια, έγινε ανταλλαγή θυρεών του Ιδρύματος και των παρισταμένων Υπουργού Υ.ΕΘ.Α. και Αρχηγών Γ.Ε.Σ., Γ.Ε.Ν. και Λ.Σ.

Η εκδήλωση έκλεισε με τον Εθνικό Ύμνο, τον οποίο έψαλαν, με βαθειά αισθήματα εθνικής υπερηφάνειας και ανάτασης, όλοι οι παρευρισκομένοι, με το Ομοίωμα να κοσμεί τους χώρους του Ομηρείου Πνευματικού Κέντρου.

CEREMONY OF THE UNVEILING
THE “GEORGIOS AVEROF” BATTLESHIP MINIATURE
On Wednesday, 23rd January 2019, the ceremony of the unveiling of the “GEORGIOS AVEROF” battleship miniature took place at the Homerion Cultural Centre of Chios, in an emotional and full of national pride atmosphere. The miniature, ordered by the “Maria Tsakos” Public Benefit Foundation – International Centre for Maritime Research and Tradition – was the first of a series of miniatures which the Foundation’s Board decided to offer to the Eastern Aegean islands by completing 100 years since the victorious wars of 1912-1913.
The ceremony was attended by the Founder Capt. Panagiotis N. Tsakos, the Chairman of the Foundation’s Board, Adm. Efthymios E. Mitropoulos and the Metropolitan Bishop of Chios, Psara, Oinousses and Kardamyla, Markos. The Minister of National Defense, Mr. Evangelos Apostolakis, the Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, Lieutenant-General Alkiviades Stephanis, the Chief of the Navy General Staff, Vice-Admiral Nikolaos Tsounis and, the Chief of the Hellenic Coast-Guard, Vice-Admiral Stamatios Raptis, honoured the event with their presence.
The ceremony was also attended by the Vice-Regional Governor of the North Aegean, Mr. St. Karmantzis, the Mayor of Chios, Mr. Emm. Vournous, Brigadier Mr. Panagiotis Kimourtzis, the Mayor of Psara, Mr. Konstantinos Vratsanos, the Mayor of Oinousses, Mr. Stefanos Vogiatzis, the Deputy Mayor of Lesvos Mr. Georgios Katsanos, the Chairman of the Court of Chios, Hon. M. Tombazi, District-Attorney Mrs S. Stavrati, Harbour Master Comm. E. Argyris, the Director of the Merchant Marine Academy of Oinousses, Comm. P. Vatousis, the Director of the Merchant Marine Academy of Chios, Comm. M. Katsari, the Dean of the Aegean University, Dr. M. Lekakou, the Director of the Secondary Education of Chios, Mrs. E. Vlisidou, representatives of the civil, judicial, military and educational authorities of the island, distinguished members of the Chian society, the pupils of the “TEENS” Nautical Lyceum of Chios and the boarders of “Maria’s House” from Kardamyla, pupils from Secondary Schools and Lyceums of the island, and many executives of the Tsakos Group of Companies along with their families.
The Chairman of the Foundation’s Board, Adm. Efthimios E. Mitropoulos, extensively referred to the history and action of the legendary battleship and its contribution to the liberation of the North Aegean islands, when, as the head of the Hellenic Fleet, accomplished glorious victories in the battles of “Elli” and Limnos. At the same time, he paid tribute to the great national benefactor G. Averoff, whose inheritance played a major role in acquiring the battleship, as well as to the late Kardamilians Michalis and Stamatia Xyla, who were the founders of the Homerion Cultural Centre.
The Mayor of Chios, Mr. Emmanouil Vournous, congratulated the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation for the offer of the miniature, highlighting the significant work that the Foundation has accomplished in maritime education and, the preservation and promotion of the maritime tradition all over Greece.
Capt. Panagiotis N. Tsakos pointed out that the major naval force is the strength and wealth of our country, prompting young children to envision a brilliant future, richly offered by the sea. He then, thanked the Minister of National Defense and the Chiefs who honoured the event with their presence.
The Minister of National Defense, Mr. Evangelos Apostolakis, in his speech, congratulated the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation taking the initiative of constructing and offering the miniature of “G. Averof” battleship to the islands of the Eastern Aegean, signifying the importance of this action in the maritime tradition and values of Greece, as well as in the knowledge of the youngsters in the glorious maritime history of our country – a story that we all ought to preserve as a most valuable resource. He then expressed his warm congratulations to Capt. Panagiotis N. Tsakos for the establishment of the first private Non-Profit Nautical Lyceum in Greece established in Chios “Tsakos Enhanced Educational Nautical School “, to which he wished every success.
Later, the Minister of the National Defense proceeded to the unveiling of the battleship’s miniature, in an atmosphere full of excitement, and after that, the exchange of crests among the Foundation, the Minister and the Chiefs followed.
The event concluded with the National Anthem, which all attendees sang with deep feelings of national pride. The legendary battleship’s miniature decorates from now on the premises of the Homerion Cultural Centre.
