“CINEMATHEIA” 2nd Festival of Student Films from N. Aegean – 28-29 June 2014

On Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June 2014 the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation hosted at its premises, the annual students’ film contest (school year 2013-2014).  The event was within the framework of the 2nd Festival of School Films of N. Aegean, had the overall theme “Journey(s)” and was organized by the Directorate of the Secondary Education of Chios.

During this two-day event, short films prepared by school students from the Northern Aegean islands, (e.g., Limnos, Lesvos, Samos, Psara, Chios and Oinousses), were shown, eliciting impressive reviews from both critics and audiences alike.  Students and teachers from Secondary Schools, Lyceum and Vocational High Schools of N. Aegean were the actors.

The 11-person critics committee consisted by: Mrs. Iro Mane (actress), Mrs. Elena Kalogridou (documentaries director), Mr. Pantelis Thalassinos (composer/singer), Mrs. Despina Tomazani (actress/writer), Mr. Paris Ksyntarianos (graphic designer), Mrs. Irene Anagnostou (reporter), Mr. Stratis Vogiatzis (photographer/director), Mrs. Marianna Karivalis (Member of the Cinema Club of Chios), Mrs. Markella Spanou (Member of the Cinema Club of Chios), Mr. Giannis Voulgaris and Mr. Stamatis Menis (Members of the Photography Club of Chios).

Mrs. Stella Tsiropina, Head of School Operations of the Directorate of the Secondary Education of Chios thanked all the participants for all the film work, as well as the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation for hosting the event. She particularly stressed out that of this school year’s Festival under the theme “Journey(s)” made the school teams that worked for these films, as well as the audience, travel to real and imaginary places, to the past and the present, through dreams, quests and desires.

The event ended the first day with the awarding of commemorative plaques to all participants– courtesy of the “Maria Tsakos” Foundation – and the next day with the announcement of distintiona and awards for the chosen films.
