Pilot Fish Parks

The Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (hyperlink to www.hcmr.gr) in collaboration with the “Maria Tsakos” Public Benefit Foundation – Centre for Maritime Research and Tradition, is implementing the project “Pilot Parks for the Protection of Young Fish” and has recently submerged two pilot underwater fish parks within the marine zone of Kardamyla harbor (location ‘Marmaro’) and of Katarraktis harbor at the island of Chios according to the procedure mandated within current legislation.

The aim of the project is the implementation, monitoring and giving prominence to an innovative fish protection technology, with expected tangible benefits to the local fishing community, the marine environment and the sustainability of fisheries.

The project is funded by the European Fisheries Fund under the Operational Programme for Fisheries 2007-2013 (hyperlink to www.alieia.gr) of the Hellenic Ministry of Food & Agriculture.
